Nature Based Learning

This year at Head start we will be focusing on Nature Based Learning and Development.   We will be spending Tuesday and Thursday mornings outside regardless of the weather so please dress your children accordingly. We will be spending time at parks, in the backyard at the Resource Center, in the woods, and by the water.

Research suggests that nature based learning and development experiences for children and adults:

  • Increases opportunities for vigorous physical activity necessary for healthy growth and development.
  • Enhances cognitive development and executive function, which are so essential for school readiness.
  • Reduce s aggression, impulsivity, inattention, and other challenging behaviors.

Children’s outdoor learning experiences respond to their individual natures and curiosity; effective outdoor experiences for young children incorporate responsive and intentional approaches to learning.
